Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Tue, 2 Dec 2014
Interviewed Nov 2014 in Milwaukee, WI
I have been happily employed with my current employer for over 5 years. I have found my stride as I have hit exceeds expectations on my last 4 annual performance reviews. I’m saying this to set the stage. Recently I was contacted by someone from Uline via LinkedIn regarding a position in HR. To be clear, they were pursuing me and I have never applied to a position with Uline before. I responded with an e-mail and within 24 hours I received a call. We had a 25 minute conversation over the phone regarding the opportunity and my background. They told me I could be a good fit and then scheduled for a face to face interview 5 days later. In the meantime, I had to complete 4 assessments which I had to actually transfer my answers to an excel spreadsheet, save and then send back to the office assistant. I also needed to print off and fill out a 6 page hard copy application to bring with me. This screamed “Old School” but I still went with the flow. Let me remind you again, they are pursuing me.
I had a few questions before the interview and the recruiter was extremely timely with their responses. I would send an e-mail at 9pm and I would get a response sometime the next morning. I was pleasantly surprised with their service thus far.
Upon my arrival for the interview I had to take two more assessments. One was a numbers recognition test and the other was a numbers sequence test, both were timed on speed and accuracy. Then I sat down with the recruiter for about 35-40 minutes. I thought it went very well. He even brought in another recruiter for me to ask questions to and I’m sure for them to get another pair of eyes on me. I thought the interview session went smooth and they both made me feel comfortable.
Later that day I thanked both of them (via e-mail) for their time and sent a LinkedIn request, which they both accepted but did not return an e-mail. 2 days later I sent another lengthy follow up e-mail and I am still waiting for a simple response. It has been 2 weeks. If I’m not the right fit, fine, I get it but simply providing an e-mailed response saying “we’re still interviewing or thanks for coming in” takes seconds. I guess the entire process was a bit shocking considering they were the ones pursuing me and now they went MIA. I have been reading stories about how they have a cult like working environment and to steer clear. I wanted to come up with my own opinions and I must say for a company that takes extreme pride in their customer service, they are sure missing the boat with their candidate pool who could be customers or potential future business.
I also realized that I could NEVER get my job done if I had to make people take 6 assessments and fill out a paper application. No wonder I am not getting a response, their recruitment process is broken. If they want the right people onboard, they need to get current with their technology and find ways to streamline the process to help them find the most qualified candidate in the shortest period of time. They don’t want thinkers, they want followers. Thanks for your silence Uline it speaks volumes.
